Rainy Day Blues
After staying up late last night watching the USA girls get the silver medal in the team gymnastics everyone slept in this morning. Anne got up first and made coffee and sausage and started in on pancakes! Very industrious! By the time we ate and sat around a little it had started to sprinkle, eventually evolving into a downpour. Four people stuck in the house with nothing to do...
The rain finally let up and we decided to drive back to Lake Placid - just because. On the way back we stopped and ate dinner at Tail O' The Pup, the local clambake and ribs place. I wouldn't recommend it. Expensive price, so so food, indifferent service.
We started to make our way back home as the sun was setting, turned the corner onto Route 86 and spotted the horses up on the hill in the golden sunlight! I got Anne to stop the car and went up a ways to get some shots. The horses must have thought that I was bringing food because the three mares came running down to greet me! They were all pretty small - only about 5 feet at the withers - and one girl was very friendly! Made me wish I had a carrot or two for treats!
Back in the car... We had a great looking sunset coming so we zipped home and I grabbed my gear and walked down to the edge of Hoel Pond. I stayed until it was too dark to see. The last shot I attempted was this shot of the drift wood poking up out of the water. I tried to shine a flashlight on them but still couldn't be sure I was focused! It came out pretty well though!
Thanks, Anne, for bringing me the flashlight! It would have been a tough walk back in the pitch dark! Love you!
