Evan's Yearbook Photo

Most high schools have very specific requirements on their senior portraits that go into the yearbook. Brockport High School is no exception - bluish background, 2.25" x 3", head size .75"x1.25",... So, Evan needed to have a studio style portrait done. I set up our studio lights and background in my living room and Evan and his dad, also Evan, came over for a quick portrait. It took all of about 5 minutes to create a great image! Just needed to get Evan to think about teasing his Dad and BINGO - there was the smile I was looking for! Here it is - enjoy!

P.S. - Evan has been invited to the Milwaukee Brewers camp to try out! Congratulations, Evan, and Good Luck!

More Alicia and Dan

I have been a bit remiss in posting some images from Alicia and Dan's wedding - but no longer! Here are a few to savor! Thanks, Dan and Alicia, for allowing us to be part of your day!

See if you can pick out my daughter, Wendy, and her husband, Jeff! I'm so proud! :-)

So Busy!

Scott and I have been very busy this week! So busy that I haven't had a chance to let you know what we are doing!

Last weekend we shot Alicia and Dan's wedding, ~images to come~ editing the images down to a manageable number has taken a bit of time as there are so many great shots. The wedding was great and the reception was a ton of fun! Thanks so much to Alicia and Dan for having us there! One of the highlights of the night was the speech and toast that Gary, Alicia's Dad, gave - he gave Dan's parents a touching salute for the wonderful son they raised for his daughter. Great job, Gary!

Cristin and Alexander's wedding is coming up tomorrow so Scott C made a portrait of them for our tent cards. We make small cards to go on the tables at the reception giving the guests the link and password to the event on our On Line Proofing site so everyone can see the images when they are complete. It's like a small business card with a great image of the couple on it. Everyone leaves with a nice portrait for their fridge!

Then last night we met with Katie to create her senior portraits. Scott and I have known her mom and dad for years but we haven't seen each other in a while and I was amazed at how the kids have grown. We had a blast! Katie went through a bunch of outfits under our blazing studio lights and then we went to Hogan Point to catch the sunset. The clouds looked very promising but, after the tremendous amount of rainfall we have had this week, it could have gone either way. Fortunately, we lucked out and the sunset was gorgeous!

We made a bunch of terrific images! Of course, Katie is great material - she has a great look, a great attitude, and a winning smile!

Today I'm off to Buffalo for a swim meet with Shannon and then back to get ready for tomorrow's wedding. More senior portraits to come in the next few weeks and then vacation at Saranac Lake for a week before coming back for Veena and Gopal's reception! Talk to you soon!

Playing With Lenses

Alicia and Dan's wedding is today! This should be a lot of fun as my daughter and son-in-law are in the wedding party and my wife and other daughter are attending. I'm not sure whether it will affect me or not - probably not as they are used to me shooting pictures of them all the time anyway!

So, we rented Nikon's newest lens, a 24-70mm f2.8, for this wedding and next weekends wedding. I was dying to try it out and put it through it's paces! It is a $1700 lens so it's better to try rather than buy before you are ready! What a sweet lens! It doesn't have the gross distortion that some of the other wide angle lenses give you, which was always my hit against wide angle. Scott C loves that look so he never minded it! Now I can shoot wide, too!

I also acquired the 85mm f1.4 (the one Scott C had already purchased) and I love that even more! Can't wait to get to the church!

Here's a few images from last nights swim practice - where else would I be on a Friday night! Enjoy!

Alicia and Dan

We are quickly coming up on Alicia and Dan's wedding this Saturday and in preparation for that, the three of us got together for a quick portrait session this morning . I think everyone will like the results! We went back to my favorite background lately, the wheat field next to my house!

Dan and Alicia are good friends with my daughter, Wendy - who came down with appendicitis on Friday night and had emergency surgery! Yes, we had an exciting weekend there for a while. Wendy is resting uncomfortably on percocet and trying to recover so that she can stand for Alicia's wedding!

So look out for more images of these two kids! Have a great day!

First Long Course Meet

SEAS (Sharks and Eagles Aquatic Sports) participated in our first Long Course swim meet of the season this morning! The Long Course season takes place over the summer months and the kids swim in a 50 meter pool, rather than the 25 yard pool that they normally swim in during the Short Course season. The first meet of the season is always fun - especially when the newer swimmers see how far it is to the other end of the pool! The unbelieving look in their eyes is precious!

This meet was even better than normal because it was held in an outdoor pool. As you would expect there are not many outdoor pools for competition in Western New York! It gave me a great opportunity to make images that would normally require flash or high ISO's without having to do anything special at all!

And, to make things even more interesting, the meet was set up as boys versus girls. They were even relegated to opposite sides of the pool! What a great idea!

One of the most interesting and bizarre happenings occurred when a couple of the older boys donned girls suits - obviously much to small for them - and proceeded to race in them! You have to be pretty secure in your manhood to prance around in front of a couple hundred people in a flowery one piece! My hat is off to them all but you'll never see me in one!

So enjoy these images. It was pretty difficult picking just a few as there were so many great shots. Congratulations to all the swimmers and have a good weekend!

GRPP Meeting

Scott and I attended the July GRPP (Greater Rochester Professional Photographers) meeting last night! Hahn Photographic was there with a ton of equipment - lights, flashes, meters, etc, for us to play with and check out. Lots of great information and talking amongst photographers about what each of us like and don't like about certain things. It was really a great time!

This is really a great group that has made Scott and I feel very welcome and comfortable. Not that either of us has any problem mixing in with a new group! :-) We both have, as my Mother would say it, "The Gift of Gab"!

We are now getting geared up for two weddings on consecutive weekends. Can't wait to get going! Dan and Alicia on the 19th and Alexander and Cristin the following Saturday. We are taking Alexander and Cristin to the Sunken Gardens between the ceremony and the reception for portraits!

On a personal note - I got a call from my Mom with compliments on the website and blog! Thanks Mom! Love you!

Evan Wexler's Senior Portraits

Tonight I had the opportunity to make some great images of Evan Wexler. Evan's Mom and Dad are good friends of ours and their daughter, Hunter, is one of Shannon's best friends! So, since the wheat fields are going to be harvested this week we took advantage of our great weather and made these images!

Evan is an up and coming young baseball player from Brockport who was just been chosen to participate in the Empire State Games (New York State's equivalent of the Olympics!) He is already being recruited by a number of colleges and I'm sure he will do well wherever he goes. He was a good sport and put up with a lot of cajoling from me and his parents all through the shoot! Thanks, Evan!

Throw out some comments and let us know how we are doing!

The Munechika's Family Portraits

Scott and I spent Saturday morning at Stacy Munechika's house creating these portraits with his family! More nice people! Stacy's Dad worked for NASA and I was itching to grill him about it but no time and not the place. We did discuss how he had three sons who are all electrical engineers and how my first daughter, Wendy, turned to biology and is now a PA. Shannon is interested in the engineering side a bit more already...

Shannon came with us as an assistant for the first time and I think she really enjoyed it! she realized that we don't just go and take pictures. There's a lot involved in getting good images!

Enjoy the images and have a great day!
